Summer 2010
(Due to many members being very busy with exams, the Summer Term programme was somewhat disrupted, with some scheduled events not taking place.
Wednesday 28th April - Pub Lunch: To start the new term we headed to the Goose for a pub lunch. Mostly talk was about the impending General Election, especially as it was apparent that the final Prime Minsters TV debate would be held on campus. Mostly the talk involved arguing over the merits between the Tories and the Liberal Democrats policies due to the position of various members.
Thursday 29th Arpil - Prime Minsters Debate: As the final Prime Minsters debate was indeed being held in the Great Hall on campus, and with the exictement of seeing campus turned into a highly fortied place due to high police presence and media jotted around campus, we decided to go the newly refurbished Joes bar to watch the debate with each and amongst fellow students. Joes was very packed with a good atmosphere as people cheered or jeered the comments being made by each party candidate. Some of us even made it on the local news afterwards!
Wednesday 12th May - Pub Quiz: We once again attempted the pub quiz at the Country Girl, hoping to improve upon our last attempt. Either due to greater knowledge or by having more intelligent people present we actually made it to the final round but sadly finished as runners ups.
Saturday 29th May - Not The Annual Meal: We donned our fancy suits once again allbeit for a take away in Selly Oak. This year we went to the takeaways on Raddlebarn Road and afterwards went to Pete's house to watch Eurovision where we were saddened to see the UK entrant finish rock bottom.
Wednesday 2nd June - Teddy Bear's Picnic: This year Scarface and his fellow wombles joined us for a picnic at Selly Oak Park. There were lots of yummy food and we even managed to catch a bit of sun. But sadly as it was half-term week the park was too full of children for us to have a bit of fun. Instead we decided to try and desing a new BUSAG logo for clothing.
Wednesday 16th June - The Brilliantly Barmy BUSAG Barbie: To celebrate the end of yet another academic year, we had a BBQ at Rhys's house. With exams out of the way and with only the dreaded results to come, meant that the whole club turned out to enjoy the bbq on a gloriusly sunny day. Rhys and Mary mainly looked after the barbie with lots of deleicious food grilling on it, from sausages and burgers to ribs and kebabs. As well as the food we also took turn to hand out dares, which included Pete stealing Victoria's hat once again and Simon having to lie down in Rhys's jungle of a garden! The barbie lasted well into the evening and capped a great way to end a highly enjoyable year for BUSAG.
Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th July - The Medieval Rally: It may have been the summer holidays but that didn't stop a group of us heading back to the Middle Ages in Cambridge for some Medieval fun. Friday night was spent catching up with friends from the other clubs as people were arriving at different times from all over the country. Eventually everyone made it around the campfire. After the opening ceremony on saturday, and after a little (well lengthy!) delay with the coaches, we were eventually grouped off into knights of the round table and taksed with discovering various facts about Cambridge. Having got to explore Cambridge and see many of the different colleges, we ate lunch and then split off for our afternoon activities. Rhys and Richard went on a hike around the nearby countryside, Kev and Simon were on the brewery tour, whilst Victoria did punt jousting on the River Cam! In the evening we had dinner at church hall in Cambridge, which was followed by the usual barn dance. During this various groups displayed their medieval costumes which included a dragron, some knights and witches. After yet another, even longer delay with the coaches(!), we eventually made it back to the campsite and spent the rest of the night sitting around the fire. Sunday morning involved various small silly games, lots of water fights and then the closing ceremony.
