About Mexico

Mexico is located on the American Continent, and geographically it is one of the three North American countries, the other two being Canada and the United States of America. Because of Mexico’s history, culture and language, the country is a part of Latin America, which comprises Mexico, Central America, South America and some of the Caribbean Islands. The country covers a land area of 1,953,152 sq. km. Due to its extension, it is the 14th largest country in the world, occupying 1.6% of the land above sea level.

Mexico borders to the north with the USA, to the South with Guatemala and Belize, to the West with the Pacific Ocean and to the East with the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. It shares a land border of 3,117.9 km with the United States. The southern border to Guatemala extends for 943.3 km and the border to Belize is 249 km.

The country’s capital is Mexico City, located at an altitude of 2,240 meters above sea level. With more than 20 million inhabitants, including the Metropolitan Zone “El Valle de México”, Mexico City is one of the largest cities in the world.
