Stuff III: The Movie

Well. Scores are up, amazingly. Took me long enough, between laziness and getting a computer in the Guild basement. Such is life, anyhoo. Lucy pulled out an impressive 436 series, though, and Simon performed nicely with a 371. In fact, everyone averaged over 100 in their games, so really it was a pretty good week. If you're REALLY curious, you can grab the .xls of the scores for the last year in their raw, unabridged form here. Probably a good idea to read the "Global Scores" tab at the bottom, since that's an amalgamation of the entire year's league scores in one handy, dandy, difficult-to-read spreadsheet. The standard deviation column, in case you never did any statistics, is basically how consistent you were, lower being better. Amazingly, I wasn't the least consistent, although it felt it at times. Nothing really more to add, other than this is the last time I get to do this. Hell, even my trusty USB key gave out like the House of Usher, except without the whole being-murdered-by-dead-sisters thing. The end of an era in all senses of the word, I suppose. I guess I'll end on this, then: best of luck for next year, guys, especially if I don't see you again. Good bowling! -- Tony

Nothing much to say, today. No one's decided to bomb Stirchley, so PERHAPS THE LAST BOWLING EVER for some of us is on as normal for next week, although that being said I can only think of two people that are actually leaving. So PERHAPS THE LAST BOWLING EVER UNTIL MAYBE OCTOBER IF YOU JOIN AGAIN for most of you. You should join. It's fun. Now, scores. Once again we have shown "consistency" isn't exactly in our dictionaries, since we were all over the shop this week. Simon and Lucy had highs of 150 and 143 respectively, but considering that Simon's total was 351 and he came top by two pins, well... it's pretty obvious how mediocre we all were. And now I'm off, because Lucy didn't turn up so I can't teach her about the SCIENCE that goes on under these very, very pretty pages. -- Tony

Well, for the most part the exams are over and there are about two and a half weeks of term left. Some of us are not quite finished, but we'll see. On to the scores, then. No-one did particularly well, it must be said - Paul did the best out of everyone with a 378 series, which was surprising considering everyone else included Matt. I guess everyone's still kind of recovering from exams. I know I am. In regards to next week, we'll be starting at the earlier time of 4:30 due to someone booking the lanes we use decades in advance, or something. I wasn't paying a huge amount of attention, but I know that we'll be leaving the Goose at the earlier time of 4:00 pm. Be there. Now I must eat and do cousework. Fun. -- Tony
Eighty Six Thousand, Five Hundred And Ninety-Three Pins Later...

Yeah, that's our league pinfall for this last academic year, of which I am responsible for about 7% if only by virtue of attending every week. Matt, Jazz, Luke, Liz and Paul are the next five, each with over 6%. Can you tell I'm bored? In terms of scores this week, well... Matt crushed us all under his short stubby claws with a 481 series. The rest of us? Not even close. Since there were only five of us I can't really say anything else. Bowling, for the record, will resume on the 2nd of June, hopefully after most of us will have finished exams. I don't know who's still going to be around then, because I daresay most of you will be running off home the first chance you get. But hey. Nothing else of importance, so I'll finish with this: Good luck in your exams, guys. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to buy crap to eat and start learning about maths. -- Tony
Well, I'm Back Again

Thought you could get rid of me, eh? Truth be told I'm only updaing the website at the moment because I've sort of made it totally inaccessible to the new committee. Maybe I can sort that out before I vanish forever, but we'll see. On with the scores. Simon M and Matt both showed us how it was done this week, with a 393 and 382 resspectively. Jay also seems to have been practicing, bumping up his average so far by ten compared to the other two semesters. Early days yet, but let's hope it continues. And also that he talks a bit more. Bowling's definitely on next Tuesday, but from then on it'll be a bit sporadic, I'm afraid. I for one have a lot of exams on the third week of the semester, but after that I should be able to turn up for a little R&R (and teeth-grinding frustration). I don't know about anyone else, though. Depends on how dedicated / foolish you feel like being. 'Til next week! -- Tony
'Twas The Last Day of Term

I'm sitting around in the Guild basement typing this. There's no-one around. Somehow, I'm not surprised. See, these are the lengths I go to to provide top-quality webpages for you. A few things before I bog off home. Bowling scores: up as usual. Better now than next semester at any rate. Not a particularly overwhelming week, it had to be said, although Russel pulled out a 393 series and Liz a 474, and in general everyone was hovering around the early-to-mid 300s. We WILL be bowling next term, although I can't see many people turning up, being it the exam period. Rest assured if you want to relieve stress by whanging heavy balls at sticks then I'll be in the Goose as normal, because I'm that dedicated. Or possibly stupid. Oh, and photos from Wednesday are up for you to laugh at. I'm hungry now. Have a good Easter, dudes. -- Tony

Oh god I'm so slow sometimes, but what can you do? Nothing but wait patiently. In terms of bowling, everyone started out well, but by towards the third games we sort of fell apart in a spectacular display of suck. That being said, Liz, Matt, Andrew H and Simon J had a few impressive games, especially since one of the above hasn't actually turned up until now. The lazy sod. Gonna keep this brief, but bowling WILL be on next week as normal. That much is sure, but there are plans to go out for a meal at some indeterminate point in the future before we split for Easter. Provisionally this is on the Wednesday, although I haven't heard any more about that. News as and when it breaks. I don't know why I'm still doing this. Not my job anymore. -- Tony

Triplex scores are up, now. In case you missed the song-and-dance about it, Liz won top female, Matt and Luke won joint top male, Simon E won the who-can-get-closest-to-an-arbitrary-score prize (which turned out to be 186) and Jess won the "Triplex Failure :)" award. Good times all round, since everyone promptly gorged on chocolate. Overall the bowling wasn't stellar, although newcomer Thomas managed to pull out a 430 series, with a high score of 191, beating Luke's 424 and Jazz's 423. Despite only being third, Jazz did manage to pull out a 190, a new high score for this term. Simon E also produced a 148 and Luke a 169, and we had a few turkeys as well. So congratulations for that. Continuing the theme of end-of-semester nicknames and general stupidity, Matt suggested the idea of porn star names for next week. Points for creativity around, 'cause "Bob Smith" isn't exactly the best name ever, it has to be said. At some point, there'll be a social at the end of term, so keep an ear out for that. And a few pennies aside too. And as a final, final note, there are now numerous photos on the photos page. Badly hand-picked by yours truly and not guaranteed to be any good. If you've got more, feel free to send 'em my way and I'll shove 'em up. The ones there at the moment are ripped straight from Facebook, so there. And yes, it looks wank on IE. That's because IE sucks. Dosvidanya! -- Tony

Yeah, I'm a retard. But enough about that. Our mini Triplex tournament turned out pretty well, I think. Aside from a few shockers a few people had a couple of good games, with the sort of people who bowl well normally bowling well. Which isn't all that surprising. I've gone through the scores and double-checked them, and aside from a few mistakes they've gone through largely unchanged. And the people who would have won prizes have still won prizes. I'll release the scores next week, during the "oh, hey, have a prize" thing. Lastly, it was good to get the AGM sorted, and by the looks of things the victories were landslides, on the virtue of not having anyone to run against. So pre-emptive congratulations to those who ran. Oh, and the tournament and league scores are now on separate pages. Hurrah. And the link for the full results for Nottingham are available here. -- Tony
So Zetta Slow
Allegedly posted 26/02/2009
Sorry about the delays. Scores from Nottingham, alongside the normal league scores, are up in the usual place. Two things of note. First off, we were supposed to hold the AGM for next year's positions on Tuesday, but the turnout was abysmal and we didn't have our president, so they've been postponed until next week. If you want to run, e-mail Shona, because she's sorting it out. Secondly, next week we're going to be running a Triplex tournament thingy. If you don't know what that is, don't worry because we'll explain on the day. Suffice to say this'll replace the normal end-of-term tournament we do because our numbers have been so lackluster recently, but rest assured you'll still win fabulous prizes and the admiration of your peers. Well, at least the prizes. 'Till Tuesday! -- Tony

Well, we're back. Sorry about the delay, I got a bit lazy. First of all, Nottingham. It was a good weekend for us all, even if the bowling wasn't exactly wun-wun-wunderbar. That might have been due to the inexorable alcohol consumption on the Friday night! And on the Sunday, well... it's hard to bowl when you're still semi-conscious from getting up at the crack of dawn. Not to mention the bizarre games of "Pass the Bomb"... Scores for that should be up this time next week. Next: Glow bowling. Despite the obvious handicap of not being able to see the lane, a few guys managed to get some pretty good scores - Jazz won a natty little bobbleheaded thing for getting a series of 472, and Matt and Liz got a few good games as well. Pretty good evening for all, I feel. Lastly, yesterday's scores. I don't know what Luke was on, but I know whatever it was I want some. He managed to stun us all with a high score of 200, with a series of 521. And as a result, he stopped sucking and moved up the league table more than a few spaces. Jess also had a pretty successful week, with a high score of 169 and a 443 series. While I'm here, we'll probably be running a tournament over weeks 8, 9 and 10. The exact mechanics aren't finalised yet, but by the looks of things a little variety is on the cards, so stay tuned. I'll be asking people next week if they want to participate, although I can't really see a reason why you wouldn't. Unless you're a loser. Until next week! -- Tony
I Swear I'll Come Up With A Halfway Relevant Title Someday
Posted 4/02/2009
I swear something changes every week in some miniscule way, because our scores are less consistent than British Rail. Big ups and downs overall, although Liz, Lucy and Paul pulled out some high series, and hopefully we'll see bowling like that this weekend. In case you missed our frantic attempted organisation, the BUSA championship thing is this weekend. In case you missed the message and you're getting the train there, you need to be at University station at 18:20 or so, preferably earlier. Jess has all the tickets, so you won't need to buy one. Should be about an hour and a half, barring snow, leaves and small children on the line. Also, if you're not sure, make sure you're signed up with the AU. It really should have been done earlier, but if you haven't, get it done before we leave, otherwise everything will be ruined forever and you won't get any complimentary hotel breakfast, because we will steal it from you. Also also slightly more true-to-life pictures of the committee have been updated. Just one more thing done on a list of millions to do. And now I can get stick for particularly unflattering pictures, instead of just inappropriate ones. :) See you Friday, chiiiiiiiiiiiiildren! -- Tony

Good to see everyone again, as well as a few new faces. Here's hoping they want to stick around for a bit. Kind of a varied week in terms of scores. There were a few people who really weren't on form, and one or two that ripped up the proverbial. Liz absolutely decimated the competition, with a 233 and a 197, and a series of 561. I can tell you now that that 233 is the first score greather than 200 that we've had all year barring Andy, so congratulations to her for that. That definitely shook up the league table a bit, but early days yet. In regards to Nottingham, this bit's just a reminder if you're going: get signed up with the AU. I talked to a few people on Tuesday and most had signed up, but I know there's a few people that haven't been bowling that are down for Notts, so on the off chance you read this, take note. I've finally finished most of my soon-to-be-assessed work, so I was going to work on a photo section for the site, at the request of Shona. Now I'm not good at picking particularly flattering shots for that, so if you have any recommendations then drop me a line. Most of them are going to be on the Facebook group, although I don't have access to the URL right at this very second. Don't think there's anything else. See you on the third. Or at least, I think it's the third. -- Tony
It's Been Five Years Since I've Done One Of These
Posted 22/01/2009
Yo. It was good to get bowling again after the Christmas hiatus. It was also good to pull out a few stellar scores this early into the year, as well. Simon J, for instance, managed to get five strikes in a row, finishing with a score of 189 and a series of 394. O' course, Simon wasn't the only one playing well. Jazz pulled out a 155 followed by a 159, finishing up with a series of 442. Let's hope we can get something like that at Nottingham, eh? I'm fairly sure that Shona was organising a Beat Our Bowlers thing for people interested in joining the society next Tuesday, so if you have a few buddies that want to chuck some balls down and chow down on beefburgers in the mean time, tell 'em to come along. They might win something. And that's the end of that chapter. -- Tony
I Can't Think Of A Title For This
Posted 13/01/2009 or thereabouts
New year, new pages on the site with information you probably already knew. Fun. Oh, and in case you missed the absolute TORRENT of e-mails from Shona, we've basically sorted out the teams for Nottingham. In short, the guy's A team is big Andy, Luke, Jazz, Matt, myself and Paul and the guy's B team is little Andy, Simon, Simon, Jay and Jacob. And an empty slot. The girls' A team is Liz, Jess and Lexy, while their B team is Shona, Lucy and Fiona. Better tournout than I expected, by the looks of things. Just as a forewarning though, if you have a driver's license you may be called forth to use it, unless you really, REALLY want a coach journey on Sunday evening from Derby to Bimringham, or something equally frustrating. I have no idea of the actual transport arrangements for Nottingham, so I'm just going to throw out a "be aware this might happen" for you to sink your teeth into. Bowling's next on on the 20th of January. I guess that's all there is to say about that, really. -- Tony
If You're Reading This I Did Something Right
Posted some time in December 2008
Hey. Scores are up. I also know who won the tournament, for various shades of "won". Rest assured you'll find out soon. Also, this is the absolute barebones of the new website. Parts of it suck, parts of it won't display on IE4, parts are stunning beacons of awesome and parts are pretty mediocre. Any suggestions as to layout I'd appreciate sooner rather than later, since it's going to be considerably harder to edit five pages if I'm changing anything other than colour and font and stuff. Yell at me at bowling or drop me a line at bigmadtony@gmail.com, because I never check my Uni email. Seriously, guys. Nothing's final and I sort of need feedback if I wanted to make the best site in the world. Or indeed a tribute. And no, I don't know who that guy in the background is. Nor do I know why the display is botched in IE7. Things should be pretty and transparent, and I don't know why. Stupid Microsoft. Laugh and grow fat! -- Tony
